The method involves detecting body movement of the vehicle generated by the road surface unevenness (17) by a sensor (15,16), and determining the position of unevenness using a navigation system (14). The vehicle body movement together with the position of the unevenness is stored. Another vehicle body movement is detected when the motor vehicle (1) passes over the unevenness again. The stored vehicle body movement is compared with the latter vehicle body movement to evaluate the state of the shock absorber (8,9). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a device for evaluating state of a shock absorber of a vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle; (2) a computer program for evaluating state of a shock absorber of a vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle; and (3) a computer program product with a program code stored in a machine-readable carrier for evaluating state of a shock absorber of a vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle.
