The method involves allowing a pressure to prevail in a fuel tank of an automotive vehicle i.e. hybrid car, based on a current or foreseeable boundary condition. An internal combustion engine drive unit is arranged next to an electromotive drive unit that is supplied by electrical energy. A charge of an electrical energy storage device is taken into account. A ventilation of the volatile fuel components located in the fuel tank is carried out via an intermediate storage. A low charge state of the intermediate storage is predicted during start-up of the engine drive unit.
