The device (302) is arranged between wall (320) of passenger carriage (304) and wall (322) of passenger compartment (308). The passenger carriage is arranged within passenger compartment for accommodating occupant of vehicle. An impingement structure (306) with deformation element (404) is deformed in feed direction (324) due to impact energy of motion applied to passenger carriage. The impingement structure is adjustable between first and second stiffness in response to parameter representing collision impact signal.
