The device has a feed pump (6), a heat exchanger (8), an expander (10) and a capacitor (12) arranged in a piping circuit (4), where a working fluid i.e. water circulates in the piping circuit. A heat accumulator (30) or a latent heat storage unit is arranged in the piping circuit, where the heat accumulator is arranged between the heat exchanger and the expander. A flow control device (32) is arranged between the heat exchanger and the heat accumulator. A three-way valve (36) is arranged parallel to a turbine (10). An independent claim is also included for a method for utilization of waste heat of an internal combustion engine.
