The battery cell (1) comprises an internal space that is provided for receiving a housing (2) defining an electrolyte. A filling opening (3) is formed for filling an interior space of the housing with the electrolyte. A closure assembly (4) made of an electrically conductive material, is provided for closing the filling opening. The closure assembly has a ball (7) for expansion of an expansion sleeve (5), that is captively arranged on a blind hole (6) formed at the expansion sleeve. A bolt is provided on the filling opening in the housing. A stop is provided in the filling opening.
