The method involves performing pyrolysis of organic compound containing substance. The tar compounds are provided with pyrolysis gas and pyrolysis residual substance. The thermal decomposition of the tar compounds is performed. The decomposing products containing process gas is generated from the thermal decomposition of the tar compounds. The gasification of pyrolysis residual substance with the process gas is performed for forming product gas. The oxygen-containing gas is supplied. An independent claim is included for a reactor.
