The pump has a running wheel (52) provided with conveying elements (53) that are arranged around a rotational axis. A workchamber is arranged at the running wheel and divided into an inflow working chamber and a diverting working chamber. Diverting channels disconnect the diverting working chamber from the diverting channels for delivering fluid. A bypass duct is passed into a diverting channel of a housing. A regulating unit regulates variable control of volumetric flow of fluid by the bypass duct. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a high pressure injection system (2) a method for operating a high pressure injection system.
