Delete relationships between sources and space-efficient targets in multi-target architectures

A method of deleting a relation between a source and a target in a multi-target architecture is described. The multi-target architecture includes one source and multiple space-saving (SE) targets associated with it. In one embodiment, such a method first includes identifying a relation that is to be deleted from the architecture with multiple targets. Then a space-saving (SE) target is identified that belongs to the relation. An assignment structure assigns data in logical tracks of the SE target to physical tracks of a data store. The method then identifies a peer SE target that inherits data from the SE target. After the SE target and the equivalent SE target have been identified, the method modifies the allocation structure in order to assign the data in the physical tracks of the data storage to the logical tracks of the equivalent SE destination. The relation is then deleted between the source and the SE destination. A corresponding computer program product is also described herein.
