The connecting element has a bracket (4) which connects two latching elements (5,6) with each other, such that the former latching element is assigned a picture frame (1) and the latter latching element is assigned another picture frame (2). The picture frames are detachably frictionally interconnected. A holding element is provided which comprises a bar (12). Two flanges (13,14) are connected with each other such that two flanges are assigned two picture frames repectively. An independent claim is included for a method for connecting two picture frames by a connecting element.
