A spark ignition engine is made available. The engine includes an engine body, a fuel injector, a spark plug, an EGR delivery system, and a control device for operating the engine body by regulating the fuel injection valve, the spark plug, and the EGR delivery system. The controller controls to burn mixed gas by compression for auto-ignition within a range using compression auto-ignition combustion, and to burn the mixed gas by spark ignition using the spark plug within a range using spark ignition combustion. Essentially, the regulator controls the EGR delivery system to introduce cooled EGR gas during the spark ignition combustion range, and controls the EGR introduction system within the compression self-ignition region, to introduce hot EGR gas. The regulator controls the EGR introduction system to introduce the hot EGR gas and the cooled EGR gas within a part of a low engine load of the area using the spark ignition combustion.
