The method involves determining a force application point on a contact surface of a brake lining of a brake caliper. A structure response (20) of a stub axle-brake caliper combination to excitation of the combination at the point is computed based on a spatial configuration of the combination. A maximum deflection (22) of the combination is derived from the response over a frequency range (21) based on the spatial configuration. The spatial configuration is adapted such that the maximum deflection is reduced over the frequency range.
