The seating system has a locking device (40) with a locking element for locking a backrest (18). The locking element is incorporated predominantly in the backrest and covered by the backrest in the loading position and in the seating position upwards in vehicle vertical direction and in vehicle transverse direction. The locking element is formed as arrester hook, which is swivelable relative to the backrest. The locking element is brought into operative connection with another corresponding locking element of the locking device for locking the backrest. An independent claim is included for a retaining arrangement for a seating system.
