The apparatus (1) has a test ring (14) coaxially arranged in a cylinder bore (21) and on a lateral surface of a test surface (141'). A test load introduction device (11) is non-conductively coupled to the test ring that is radially expandable. An activatable, controllable force and radially expandable expander is arranged in the test ring that is operatively coupled with an expansion force introduction device. The test load introduction device comprises a shaft, and a test circuit is arranged coaxial at a shaft end (11') over the shaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing adhesion of a coating on a cylinder liner of a cylinder bore.
