The method involves providing a vehicle (1) with a protective device (6) for protection of vehicle occupants and for detecting protection parameters. The operating parameter of the air conditioner (3) is varied (10) based on the protection parameters. The operating parameter is varied based on the recognized tiredness of driver of vehicle, probability of accident of vehicle, vehicle environment and/or future vehicle environment. The operating parameter is varied according to manual operation. An independent claim is included for a vehicle.
