The interior door panel has a built-in edge protection unit which is retractable and extendable, while opening the vehicle door. A padded sleeve is attached to a rotational axis of the edge protection sleeve. The rotational axis of the edge protection sleeve is movable over a connection to the door hinge. The edge protection sleeve is controlled by the steered-sensor electro-motors.
