The mechanical vertically adjustable footrest has a sliding dovetail (1) and a foot support surface (2), which is connected with the sliding dovetail to the sides in a form-fit manner but reversibly in the height direction in a moving manner such that the position of the foot support surface is adjusted by hand along the height of the sliding dovetail. The position of the foot support surface is retained after releasing the foot support surface by tilting with the sliding dovetail.
