The feed device comprises a guide element having an aperture through which the welding wire is guided on its path from a supply reservoir to the workpiece, and the guide element is secured by at least one motorized movable manipulation axis in the feed device and/or the welding machine. At least two cameras are provided for detection of the positions of the welding wire and the focus spot on the workpiece and a control device for influencing the movement of at least one manipulation axis; and (3) influencing the movement of the welding wire based on a workpiece and/or based on a focal spot of a welding device, where the welding wire is passed by guide element to the workpiece and/or the focal spot, such that the relative position of the welding wire and spot focus or welding wire and workpiece is detected during processing of the workpiece, and the position of the guide element is changed relative to the workpiece by at least one manipulation axis as a function of the change in this relative position.
