The method involves generating a resulting high dynamic range (HDR) image, and monitoring pixel values within a short-exposure image (100) and a long-exposure image. A light source region is identified within the short-exposure and long-exposure images based on the monitored pixel values. One of pixel ratios and pixel differences between the monitored pixel values of the long-exposure and the short-exposure images are calculated. A glare-reduced image is generated based on the modified identified glaring region upon resulting HDR image. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for generating a glare-reduced image from images captured by a camera device of a subject vehicle.
