The device (1) has a guide unit (2) for guiding a planar material (5) in a guide direction and for folding the planar material such that the planar material runs in a plane orthogonal to the direction and is curved with an apex of a curvature. Two legs project from the apex and lead the planar material to a press mechanism (4). A heating device (3) is arranged in front of the mechanism in the direction and heats an inner side of the planar material. The mechanism is arranged in a connection region of the folded planar material to press the legs such that the legs are moved on one another. The guide unit is designed as a funnel sleeve. An independent claim is also included for a decorative material.
