The belt grinding machine (10) has a contact arm (28), at which an endless abrasive belt (24) driven by a drive roller (22) is deflected by a deflection roller (26). The contact arm is attached indirectly on a housing (12) of the grinding machine. A sliding element (56) is formed to reduce the frictional heat in an operation of the belt grinding machine with a pressing of the abrasive belt on the contact arm.
