Kit comprises yeast cells of different species comprising (a) a sensor-cell of a first type comprising a gene, which leads to the synthesis of a pheromone and is provided under transcriptional control of a primary signal-dependent promoter and (b) actuator-cells of at least one type comprising (i) at least one receptor for a pheromone, (ii) at least one target gene that is coded for a secondary signal and is placed under the control of promoters. An independent claim is included for in vivo detection of at least one extracellular primary signal using the kit, comprising (a) contacting the sensor cells with the primary signal leading to the synthesis and secretion of the pheromone from the sensor cells, and (b) activating the receptor of the actuator cells by the pheromone, by which a target gene is functionally expressed, and/or (c) activating the receptor of amplifier cells by the pheromone of the sensor cells leading to the synthesis and secretion of a pheromone of the amplifier cells.
