The invention relates to a device and a method for generating a driver signal, with which an acousto-optical component can be controlled, so that by means of the acousto-optic component, the carrier envelope phase for every Nth laser pulse of the train temporally equidistant short laser pulses is corrected to the same fixed phase value. For this purpose it is provided that the driver signal is formed as an electrical offset frequency comb signal whose frequency spectrum simultaneously has a plurality of discrete frequency components, wherein adjacent frequency components in the frequency spectrum have a frequency spacing (Δf = fREP / N) corresponding to an Nth part of the repetition rate ( fREP), and each of the discrete frequency components is individually assignable to an integer M, such that the frequency f M of that individual discrete frequency component KM is mathematically the sum of the same for each frequency component carrier envelope offset frequency f CEO and one for each frequency component express individual product formed of this individually assigned integer M and the Nth part of the repetition rate (fREP) of the laser pulses in the train of short laser pulses.
