The device has an analyzing device (16) connected with a microphone (17) for analyzing microphone signals. A manually actuatable, acoustically operating and mechanical operating element (20) generates operating noise by manual actuation. The analyzing device detects the noise, and outputs an operating signal as an output signal during detecting the noise. The element includes a key with a key stroke so that the noise is produced by striking the key. The operating element includes an elastic element, which jumps from a stable condition into an instable or stable condition during actuation. An independent claim is also included for a hearing instrument.
