The DC-DC converter has two semiconductor switches (3,4) for cyclically charging and discharging an inductor (5) used as an active energy storage. The semiconductor switches are parallely connected with respective capacitors (6,9) and diodes (7,10) which are respectively connected in series to prevent over-voltage of switches. A switch (13) is provided for parallely switching the resistor (12) between diodes. An independent claim is included for a method for operating DC-DC converter.
