A pattern including a dome and a reentrant bowl is formed. A piston mold is formed around the pattern. The mold comprises an aggregate material and a binder. The pattern is removed from the piston mold. A molten aluminum-based metal is introduced into piston mold. The piston mold is contacted with a solvent, and the binder and aggregate are removed. The molten aluminum-based metal is cooled by solidifying at 400[deg] C or less and operating pressure of 200 bar or less. Thus, the sand casting of aluminum-based piston (1) is carried out.
