The transmission (10) has three connectors directly connected with first, second and third planetary gear trains (14, 16, 18). Seven torque transmission devices e.g. selectable one-way clutches (24, 26, 28) and brakes (30, 32, 36), are selectively engaged to interconnect the first gear train, the second gear train, the third gear train and a four planetary gear train (20) with a gear housing (50). The transmission devices are selectively combined to produce a set of forward rotation speed ratios and reverse rotation speed ratios between an input shaft (12) and an output element (22).
