The filtering assembly has a transmission unit that is selected from the group consisting of torque converter (14), damper, clutch hub, clutch piston, clutch housing, clutch piston dam, gear, gear carrier, electric motor, sprocket, bearing, flange, wall of pump housing (17), and pressure plate assembly. A debris trap (16) has a porous surface and attaches to the transmission unit. The debris trap defines pores and surrounding structures. The pores allow sediment or debris particles to enter the trap through the pores. The surrounding structures trap the debris particles. An independent claim is included for a method for collecting sediment from fluid of automotive transmission.
