Treating keratin fibers, preferably hair, comprises applying a composition containing fatty substance to the keratin fibers, applying a mechanical tension to the keratin fibers, and exposing the keratin fibers under mechanical tension to microwaves at a pressure of 50000-250000 Pa in presence of a solvent in vapor form in contact with the keratin fibers and without completely drying out the keratin fibers during the entire exposure to microwaves. Treating keratin fibers, preferably hair, comprises applying a composition containing fatty substance to the keratin fibers, applying a mechanical tension to the keratin fibers, and exposing the keratin fibers under mechanical tension to microwaves at a pressure of 50000-250000 Pa in presence of a solvent in vapor form in contact with the keratin fibers and without completely drying out the keratin fibers during the entire exposure to microwaves. The solvent in vapor form is entirely generated by the evaporation of a compound present, before the microwaves are emitted, in contact with the keratin fibers.
