The device (5) has a pressure limiting device (15) placed on a pipe (22) connecting high and low pressure fluid sources (12, 14) with each other, where the device is operated in an energy recovery mode and an energy accumulation mode. The fluid is transferred from high to low pressure sources by driving a hydraulic engine (10) in rotation, in the recovery mode. The limiting device is adapted to be open when a filling indicator of the high pressure source tends to exceed a predetermined value, so that level of fluid in the high pressure source cannot exceed the predetermined level. The fluid is transferred from the low pressure source to the high pressure source by action of the engine functioning as a pump.
