The test environment implements at least one application software process, free of its own mechanism for saving its state, executed on a host station; the emulator communicates in writing with the application software process via a shared memory; the method comprises stopping (20) the application software process with freezing (21) test data and address pointers in the shared memory, stopping the emulator, writing data to the emulator in the shared memory between stopping the software process and stopping the emulator being authorized only in the presence of memory locations available in the shared memory, a backup (27) of a first file (F1) representative of the state of the emulator when it is stopped, a disconnection (28) of the application software process of the management module of the interface with the host station, and a backup (29) of an executable program file (F2) representative of the state of the application software process when it is shut down.
