The device has a cup (1) fixed to an arm and to a rod (15) of hydraulic shovel by joints (14, 15). The cup, a shoe (2) with vibrator (5) and a fixed laser (8) define a compaction reference plane. The cup has control mechanisms (11, 13) to control a position of the cup relative to a ground. The mechanisms are controlled by cells (10, 12) carried by the cup, and react to the laser to place cup in an angular position in which the shoe is disengaged from the ground to perform earthwork or in compaction position in which the shoe is rested against ground to transmit vibrations from the vibrator.
