The device has a projection unit (4) for generating a beam of light that is provided with an image to be displayed. A partially reflective screen is arranged with a close display zone and a remote display zone that are arranged to display the image in a field of vision of a user. An active element (5) e.g. transmissive type active element or active light diffuser, is arranged to receive the beam of light of the projection unit, where the active element transmits the beam of light towards the display zones. The active element is connected to a light beam characteristics management module. The active element includes liquid crystal dispersed in polymer. An independent claim is also included for a head-up display method.
