The method involves bringing a battery (1) to a preset level of load (a), and attempting to carry out starting of the battery (c). An internal combustion engine is started in a given maximum time. A minimal level of load for which the internal combustion engine is able to be started is determined (f). The minimal level of load for a battery voltage is determined.
