The method involves implementing an image acquisition unit (13) including a video sensor (14) and acquisition optics (15), and scrolling a surface of an object in front of the unit. A lighting unit (20) of the object is installed. An acquisition phase successively and repetitively preforms acquisition samples with types of lit lighting, so that the samples of same type are distributed on entire surface. A primary image of the surface is reconstructed with samples of same type so as to obtain multiple primary images. An independent claim is also included for a device for checking a translucent object.
