The plant (5) for rearing animals comprises: - a livestock building (5a) whose rectangular footprint is rectangular, said building (5a) being provided with two longitudinal parallel wall sections in one at least one of which is formed at least one access opening and two transverse parallel wall sections, perpendicular to the longitudinal wall sections, - troughs (3), arranged in parallel rows in the building, - a mobile unit (1) filling the troughs (3) in food, suspended on a horizontal rail (50) mounted in fixing in the building (5a) away from the ground. This installation is remarkable in that the rows formed by the troughs (3) are perpendicular to the longitudinal wall sections of the building (5a).
