The subject of the present invention is a staining method using a composition comprising at least one staining precursor derived from non-glycosylated iridoids and at least one chemical oxidizing agent, a composition comprising at least one precursor of staining, a device comprising said precursors, staining precursors and a method for preparing said precursors. A process for dyeing preferably human keratin fibers, such as the hair, comprising applying to said fibers: i) at least one composition (A) comprising at least one compound of formula (I) below: compound of formula ( I) as well as its optical or geometric isomers, its tautomers, its acid or base salts, mineral or organic, their solvates such as hydrates; formula (I) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, X, and n are as defined in the description; and ii) at least one composition (B) comprising at least one chemical oxidizing agent; the compositions (A) and (B) can be applied simultaneously, or sequentially by the application first of (A), then by the application of (B). The composition and the dyeing process according to the invention make it possible to obtain various colorations that do not degrade the hair, which are particularly stubborn with respect to shampoos.
