A video comparison apparatus for sports coverage comprises a video input which receives video frames of captured video footage from a video camera 10A, 10B having a fixed viewpoint of a scene, the video frames being associated with respective times referenced to a universal clock (110). A control input receives event data indicating that an event such as a lap around a racecar track has occurred, the event being associated with a time referenced to the universal clock. The apparatus also includes a video processor which is operable to select two or more instances of video footage associated with universal times responsive to the universal times of two or more instances of the event. Furthermore, a video compositor superposes onto successive video frames of one instance of selected video footage at least a first part of a corresponding video frame from each of the one or more other selected instances of video footage. The superposition may involve making the frames of one instance transparent. Video footage may be obtained using high definition cameras and pixels of received video frames may be projected onto a virtual image plane to form a virtual camera viewpoint of the frame.
