Selective adjustment of a data unit sequence number

Data units (or packets) sent to a receiver (e.g. a mobile device) have respective sequence numbers (SN), and the receiver uses a reordering window to determine whether a newly received data unit is a new data unit, or a repeated data unit. A status report comprising an indication of the sequence number of the last new data unit of the data stream received at the receiver from an old cell before a handover from the old cell to a new cell is transmitted to the new eNB. The sequence number of a next data unit to be transmitted in the new cell following the handover is selectively adjusted such that the next data unit will be determined to be a new data unit by the reordering window of the receiver. The status report may also contain the latest Hyper Frame Number (HFN).
