Generation of versions of a web site, each version being initially assigned an equal weighting score and uploaded for use, recording subsequent site traffic per version including subsequent user actions, for example purchase, download, click-through, registration, etc., analysing use records on a periodic or cyclic basis to calculate adjustments to the weighting scores of each version and once the numbers are statistically significant, changing the weightings to direct differing portions of internet traffic through different website versions in order to optimise the conversion rate of the website. The conversion rate is the ratio of total actions over initial hits on the web site. Changing the weightings may result in elimination of the worst performing version as the self-adapting optimisation continues to make the web site design evolve to be more effective in courting user actions.
