Vehicle sliding door latch mechanism with planetary gears can release latch and cancel release

A vehicle door closer device comprises a latch 7 movable from a half-latch position to a full-latch position, and a ratchet 9 which can engage with the latch 7. A planetary gear mechanism 33 has a sun gear 35 able to turn in only one direction, and a planetary gear 36 engaged with the sun gear 35. A closing lever 38 pivots with both the sun 35 and planetary 36 gears. A ring gear 39 surrounds the sun 35 and planetary 36 gears, engaging with the planetary gear 36. When the ring gear 39 turns in a closing direction, the planetary gear 36 orbits the sun gear 35, driving the closing lever 39 to move the latch 7 into the full-latch position. When the ring gear 39 turns in a releasing direction, the planetary gear 36 drives the sun gear 35 to rotate, releasing the ratchet 9 from the latch 7. Also presented is a device with a latch 7, a ratchet 9 and a motor slowed by a reduction mechanism 33, the motor motion releasing the ratchet 9 from engagement with the latch 7. A release cancelling mechanism 303 disconnects the motor motion from the ratchet 9. The devices may be used in a vehicle sliding door.
