PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of identifying microorganisms derived from a test sample.SOLUTION: A method for identifying microorganisms comprises: collecting microorganisms; lysing and solubilizing non-microbial cells; layering the lysed sample; forming a microorganism pellet by centrifugation; applying Raman analysis to the microorganism pellet; determining spectroscopic measurements of the microorganism pellet from the analyzed Raman spectra; and identifying the microorganisms to the genus, species, and/or strain level from the spectroscopic measurement values.
