PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wet friction material excellent in durability.;SOLUTION: A resol type phenolic resin for a wet friction material is provided, in which the resol type phenolic resin has a weight average molecular weight of 100 or more and 500 or less and has a methylol group and an alkoxymethyl group in a chemical structure constituting the resol type phenolic resin. A production method of the resol type phenolic resin for a wet friction material is provided, which includes steps of: allowing phenols to react with aldehydes under basic conditions to obtain a reaction product having a methylol group; and allowing the obtained reaction product to react with alcohols to convert a part of methylol groups into alkyl ethers. A wet friction material is obtained by impregnating a fiber base material with the above resol type phenolic resin for a wet friction material.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
