The traveling-wave electrode 30 comprises: electrode sections 7 and 8 that are respectively connected to the P-type and N-type regions 31 and 32 in the optical waveguide region 4. The electrode sections 7 and 8 respectively include: first and second electrode sections 7A, 7B, 8A and 8B extending along the optical waveguide region 4; and detour sections 7C and 8C that connect these.
