PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for conveying a glass tube strand or glass rod strand having a cross-section that is different from a circular cross-section, in particular having an oval cross-section, while minimizing curvature of the strand as much as possible.SOLUTION: Plural support and guide members 3 are arranged one after the other such that a moving glass tube strand or glass rod strand 30 is directly supported thereon and guided by them. Furthermore, the support and guide members 3 are disposed tilted in a direction of movement so that the moving glass tube strand or glass rod strand 30 is directly supported on edges of the support and guide members 3. Thus, one-sided heat losses due to heat dissipation via the support and guide members 3 can be significantly reduced to thereby reduce the curvature of the glass tube strand or glass rod strand 30.
