PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate a frequency of wire breaks during wire drawing.SOLUTION: The method for evaluating the quality of a steel for high carbon steel wires comprises: collecting molten steel samples after receiving a molten steel in a ladle from a steel converter until starting secondary refining in the charge of a target for which a frequency of wire breaks is evaluated; subjecting the collected molten steel samples to analysis to examine X' pieces [piece/g] of AlOinclusions; substituting a collection time t' collecting the molten steel samples, the X' pieces [piece/g] and a reduction speed constant k previously required for X'=X' exp (kt') to obtain X' pieces [piece/g] of AlOinclusions generated when receiving the molten steel; and then substituting a coefficient A previously required and the X' pieces for Y'=AX' to estimate a frequency Y' of wire breaks of the target charge.
