PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phononic device suitable for attenuating mechanical vibration and acoustic vibration that propagate through a medium.SOLUTION: Significantly improved attenuation of vibration is achieved through periodic inclusion of multiple domains of a material in a matrix that vary in the ratio of the longitudinal speed of sound (C) and the transverse speed of sound (C) between the multiple domains of the material and the elastomer equal to or greater than 2.0 and 40, respectively.
