PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve wideband while reducing cost.;SOLUTION: An optical wavelength multiplex communication system of the invention comprises: a plurality of transmission side conversion units 100 that are assigned to each of a plurality of wavelength bands, and convert electric signals into optical signals at assigned wavelength bands to output them; a transmission side multiplexing unit 110 that multiplexes the plurality of optical signals output from the plurality of transmission side conversion units 100 and transmits them as a wavelength multiplexed optical signal; a reception side demultiplexing unit 111 that demultiplexes the wavelength multiplexed optical signal transmitted from the transmission side multiplexing unit 110 into the plurality of optical signals to output them; and a plurality of reception side conversion units 101 that are assigned to each of the plurality of wavelength bands, and convert the optical signals at assigned wavelength bands among the plurality of optical signals output from the reception side demultiplexing unit 111 into electric signals.
