PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely extract only the image area of a plant body from a color image acquired by imaging the plant body.SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method of extracting the image area of a plant body from a color image acquired by imaging the plant body, the method which being configured to acquire the color image by imaging the plant body by a camera (ST1), to measure the density value of the image area of a background about the blue component image of the color image (ST2), to apply the measurement value to an arithmetic formula to calculate a binary threshold calculated by using the sample of a homogeneous plant body in advance, to calculate the binary threshold corresponding to the brightness of the image area of the background (ST3), to generate a mask image by binarizing the color component image by the binary threshold (ST4, 5), and to extract only the image area of the plant body from the color image by using the mask image (ST6).
