Identification of new enhancer sequence has a significant utility in plant functional genomics. Sugar cane rod virus (SCBV) transcriptional enhancer has been identified. The enhancer is to increase the rate of transcription from a gene promoter, and which can be used in the activation tagged experiments. SCBV enhancer 4 × arrays, when placed upstream of a truncated corn alcohol dehydrogenase minimal promoter, 10-fold increase in transcription was observed. Chimeric transcriptional regulatory region comprising one or more copies of the enhancer, constructs, cells, like tissues and organisms have been described a method of using the SCBV transcriptional enhancers.
