PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration capable of suppressing a power supply high harmonic wave at battery charging as the whole power failure lamp even when connected with a low-wattage illuminating device, in a backup power supply for a power failure lamp.SOLUTION: A backup power supply (1) for a power failure lamp, which is connected with an illuminating device (2), comprises: a battery (3); a battery charging circuit (4) including a rectification circuit (41) performing full-wave rectification of a commercial power supply (AC) and a switching power supply circuit (42) switching a pulsating voltage outputted from the rectification circuit (41), and charging the battery (3) by an output current of the switching power supply circuit (42); and a switching controller (5) configured to connect the battery charging circuit (4) to the battery (3) and connect the commercial power supply (AC) to the illuminating device (2) in a first state (A), and connect the battery (3) to the illuminating device (2) in a second state (B).
